WOW, what an ass-kicker of a ride today.. not that it was all that difficult, but, well we could say that i got a little stupid at some point and never really got back under control until ummm today maybe?
we met at the usual location, quite a substantial group ~30...headed out on granite road toward the y, then, new terrain for me, we went straight toward granite station. the group stopped and only 6 of us went further toward glennville. this was not an easy ride...so much so that 25ish didn't even consider making the voyage...so either all of them had something else to do, or they are just giant wussypuffs.. of the 6 of us that went on, one turned back..that's what kind of a ride it was. so anyway... we made it to glennville, took a break at this little convenience store (interesting fact: some time ago, in glennville, the gas station's underground tanks leaked contaminating the water supply in the area, so all the water for human consumption has to be brought into town, yikes) refilled our bottles, with bottled water, and headed toward woody. i don't remember passing through an actual town, so maybe it is just the area that is called woody, but whatever.. the descent was fun, turny and fast.. there were a couple scary corners, some with sand..yikes.. we regrouped at the woody overlook and ran into some other usual suspects who were headed the opposite direction, to woody... we continued on...and i was starting to feel a little off as we were climbing granite road to get back into town..i knew something was "off" so i ate everything i had and continued to sip water as i rode...i felt myself getting stupid, so i backed way off and tried to let my body recover.. it was mellow going the distance, as i was going over the last rise i saw a couple of the other 4 that had turned back to make sure i was alive....nice of them....i didn't have much left, but the pace seemed to slow so i didn't get left behind..and i stayed in the back the whole way back to beach.. ouch..guess this is my early season reminder to keep eating and drinking... total calorie burn for the ride: 5097.
ok, on to the joke that i was given on friday to post saturday:
3 men die and meet st peter at the gate.
man 1 is asked did you cheat on your wife? yes. how often? once a month. ok you get to ride this huffy 10-speed bike around for the rest of time
man 2 is asked the same, yes, every 6 months. ok you get this pinto to get around
man 3 nope, 50 years true. you get this brand new mercedes
about a month later man 1 and 2 bump into man 3 and find him kicking the tire of his mercedes, 1 & 2 ask are you out of gas? no. broken down? no. then what's wrong? i just ran into my wife, she was riding a skateboard.
bet you've heard some variant of that one before, but this patient kicks ass, as do all of my patients...and just to see the sparkle in his eye from making someone else laugh is worth listening. he's headed home tuesday, so my new thing will be asking patients to tell me jokes, then i'll pass them along. maybe they will make you smile, laugh out loud, help you pass the time, whatever.....
today i also went out to the zerker loop orange and clementine fields and, well you could say ummmmm, invited myself to a couple... was a blast to stand amongst the endless rows of green trees with little fruits all over them.. and the smell, wow! something one would just have to experience on their own, well worth it.
snapped a lot of great photos, will post those later due to a camera mix up (thievery, punk)
