friday evening drove to pocatello, crashed the sweet low cost hotel across from ISU campus.. got up sunday morning and kindly got my arse handed to me on the garden city gap race.... here's how it went:
got to the race nice and early.... warmed up for a good 45min.. race started a good 30min late so all that warm up was for nothing.. we started up a hill, not an easy hill so some/many had a difficult time clipping in, kind of a joke.
on the "back side" of the course we were traveling at a whoping 13miles/hr...what a joke and no one wanted to get a break going and believe me brian was trying......but as soon as he would get off with a good group the group wouldn't work and some jerk would chase it down and the field would follow.
up the hill, well this is where i was first off.......caught back on just in time for another jerk to attack before the 3mile climb....ouch.... as off the back with brian, chris from rmcc and andrew putt. we all got to the top about the same time, and i was content working with them to get gain as much ground on the field. we were working good, then chris dropped off, then andrew...wtf, it was brian and i, and i was feeling like poo. we mostly rode a steady pace and chatted. caught on with a couple other guys and they didn't have anything left either, so we were content with them sitting on. just before the climb here comes andrew, what the hell, where did he come from?? he didn't stay with us long. when he went i went and just tried to hold his wheel....he got away and stayed away. i think if i had another 200 feet to the finish i would have caught him, but who cares we were so far off the group that we were racing for like 25th place or something stupid like that.....
post race: i was hurting..... i didn't want to move so i was content sitting on the tailgate of my car. after i looked for and eventually found my wheels we took off an got cleaned up at the hotel..nice folks at the hotel, they didn't really care what we did so a super late check-out was no prob... from there we headed to find my favorite dive bar in pokie: the sand trap.
the sand trap: well this used to be a dive bar, and now it's a bit more uppity....so much so that i questioned even going inside. it used to have this huge outside area where you could just go kick it on the picnic tables and enjoy...well now the "deck" is small and not very open space oriented..kind of sad. had a couple of skinny dips, some tots (of course), a sammy, good times catching up with some friends that happened to be there, then we were off back to SLC, so we could ride with some friends the next day, well today that is...
today's ride: TOSL, pronounced tossle, tour of salt lake, which we rode backwards.. met at 9E 17S, headed W to route 111..then south until forced east, back along the west side...was a good ride, but i still need someone to explain why dina rides in the middle of the fing lane....i mean she's been hit once and well she's beggin to be hit again... anyway good ride with jason, erin, lacy, and duh.... afterward shower, beers, electrical...good combo.....now off to much needed bed.. lates~
pics when i get a hold of them...
