today's ride got a little bit of a late start...think i left home after noon, youch, so it was a little toasty. the plan was to ride big cottonwood then big mtn...well that didn't quite happen as i was already near the 5hr mark when i reached the top of little mtn(emigration canyon) and didn't want to overdue much more than i already had.
ride:
left with 2 full bottles and 3 electrolyte tablets
got to the mouth of big C, had 1.5 bottles remaining...
**caveat: ok people, yes this is utah, and yes people either don't know what birth control is or they are too horney to take the time to use it.....it's one thing to take your unruly kids to retail stores and let them run hog-ass wild throughout, but it's another to take their freakin diapers and toss them out the window as you drive......yes on my way up BCC i passed 2 neatly folded up diapers that had been tossed out the window....now i don't care if it stinks, if it leaks or whatever there's absolutely no reason to litter in the first place let alone in a beautiful canyon....unbelievable.
as i was ticking away at landmarks, i saw another rider up the roade just before the S curves, nice time to catch them... it took me a bit longer than expected, so as i passed i said to him: "you sure make a nice carrot" he got it and said thanks... i continued on and put the distance on him, think he turned back before the top of the canyon as i didn't see him again.
at solitudes 2nd lot i heard a holler, it was another canyon rider, couldn't make out who it was as my eyesight is not all that wonderful, i hollered back lets go.... it was brian smith, nice guy....we rode to the top and the loop together and caught up a bit..seems like he's had a bit of a ruff go the last couple weeks... as we finished the loop, i turned off to fill up bottles at the brighton store, he rode down solo to meet his wife who was in the solitude lot.
top of BCC, bottles empty, filled and drank one, then filled both and put tabs in...time to go down...also ate a bar just to be safe.
the ride down was good, was fast in some areas and slow in others, that dang wind just couldn't make up it's mind...
mouth of BCC 1.5 bottles
time to head north to emigration, feeling good....
on wasatch blvd, there was nice headwind the entire way, ouch...caught another rider and said: "nothing like a little headwind to make you work" he laughed..
water fountain on the north side of parley's trail .5 bottles remaining, filled up and put in the last tab...also took a nice long drink.
continuing to emigration via wasatch dr....up the hill by the golf course then finally to the mouth..
was riding strong up the canyon, feeling good.....then flat......rear.....dang it....just above the sun and moon cafe....threw a tube in and continued on..
at the top of the canyon bottle count: .5.....another thing that urged me to turn homeward.
kind of took it easy on the way down as i didn't have another tube and i really didn't want to call for an extraction or walk it out.... was a good ride, kept riding strong.....
got home, beat....but validated it was a good long ride and i needed that.
got cleaned up and went to fresno's b-day shin dig, had a little sangria, a cookie (well maybe 2) then home to meet lacy to go see transformers 2..... another great movie........all those who said it sucked were wrong...well maybe not fully wrong.. the plot was dumb and there was almost too much action as i couldn't see what was going on all the time.....but in general the movie was great, i'd go see it again, but prob just wait till it comes out on dvd, or maybe hit it again at the $1.50 theater....
